Ideas to Advertise Phone Payments to Your Users

This one goes out to our start-ups and anyone not yet familiar with the beauty of telephone payments.

Using phone payments is convenient for users because it’s an easy, fast and safe way to buy online services and goods. SMS payments are one of the most popular methods out there, with Call payments still going strong in some countries, like the German speaking ones. Enabling your users to pay via phone means you’ll be reaching the ones who don’t have a credit card or the ones who don’t trust you right away with their credit card information. You’ll also offer a perfect alternative to whomever doesn’t want to register in any way. Basically, you’ll cover anyone owning a phone, mobile or landline.

After enabling your users to pay with their phones, let them know about your new available payment method, so you can see those revenues grow. Here are some of our ideas on advertising phone payments:

Update your website

Create a banner. Add information about phone payments and the benefits your users will get. It’s also a good idea to include FAQs and support information.

Create a landing page

This is a great way of letting your users know about this new payment method. A little information about it, some cool graphics and this could do the trick. Include a link to the payment interface so users can test and see how easy it is to pay.

Share on social media

Everyone is on social media these days. You know your users best, so promote phone payments on the platforms you know they follow. Motivate them to share the news with their friends, get the word out.

Run a discount promotion

This is one that has proven most successful for many of our partners. Incent your users to try phone payments by: offering more credits, creating promotion sets for certain in-game items, making a ‚happy hour‘.
One thing to be careful about here is cannibalism. Your aim is to get your users to become payers and not to shift those who already pay via another method. You want phone payments to reach users you’ve not reached before with your other payment options. So target your promotions to segments of your audience:

  • The card-less: teenagers don’t have credit cards and phone payments can be the only way they can pay for your online content. We can also include here the people who are reluctant about using their credit cards for online payments – it’s the case with most of the German population.
  • The countries: your users in MENA, Africa, Asia and Latin America for instance are likely to not have access to credit cards, so phone payments would again be the perfect solution for them.
  • The behaviour: users who have not paid for your content before, might try phone payments as this method avoids a lot of what make people worry online (credit card fraud, data security online, creating a payment account etc).
